Plumpton Tyro What a bloody turnout, 30 entries, god that’s a lot. Wouldn’t want anymore 30 is really too many to cope with. The first thing I must say is without the Marshalls on Sunday I would not have been able to manage the day with so many vehicles. The Marshalls did a sterling job all day long; all I can do is thank them so very much.
8 sections run on the day. Sometimes we had a little stutter but in all the drivers were behaving themselves most of the time, (Red Jeep!). We had to have more than one vehicle in a section at a time, just so everyone on the day had a bit of driving and were not standing around all day, most of the time this worked really well, yes we had to stop the odd vehicle when we had a bit of a jam, but overall it went very well.
The site at Plumpton lends itself very well to the Tyro’s. Soft sand over most of the site means it’s easier to set out the courses. I don’t have to think so much about damage, which lets me be a little creative with the ground.
There were quite a few new members driving and for a first tyro they did very well. Our Tyro’s have a bit of a reputation for being harder than usual. There was only one comment on the day about it being a wee bit difficult, but on the whole I think everyone enjoyed the difficulty.
We as a club must be doing something right to get some many competitors on a Sunday and on one that the weather wasn’t the greatest.
Now a little compliant from me. If you are a spectator or a competitor and Not a Marshall, please do not call out another competitor, that job is up to the Marshalls on the day, we can’t see everything that happens but it might just be you that we missed hitting a cane, you wouldn’t like it if your mate shouted that you hit the 10 cane, so let the Marshalls do the job without any distractions. Thanks.
Once again thanks to all who helped on the Saturday and Sunday. The next tyro is at Mealsgate. It’s a great all weather site, well worth going to. Hope to see you all there.
