Mealsgate Tyro – 2nd August 2009

Well, where to begin, travelled over from Brampton to Mealsgate on the Saturday, met up with Fiona and Bryan around 12 o’clock to help setup. We set about six sections up.

On Sunday, arrived at Mealsgate about 9am, nice and dry, sun coming out. Quite a selection of vehicles, thirteen drivers in all.

The first section was nice and easy if you didn’t lose your way. Every one circled into the next section which was up and down a few hills in the mud, though Mel did not get a scream out of Stevie.

Another section looked reasonably easy but gate seven proved rather difficult, even for a Suzuki. We all had another go later, after Hilton tweaked it. Fiona said “Nobody is going till you all get round this time!” so we did.

The section before diner was enjoyable , especially gate 8 to 7 where we were running sideways up a bank, aiming for a bush, right to the 7 gate. Andrew was nearly jumping out as we drove along.

More mud in the afternoon. We really enjoyed the day, I think that goes for everyone. Congratulations to Elaine for coming 3rd, without Hilton. Thanks to Fiona and Bryan for organising the event and to all marshals and helpers.
