Woke up early on Sunday morning only to look out the window and see that it was still chucking it down from the night before. After a mad scramble to find the waterproofs and of course the spotty wellingtons we set off to Talkin Tarn.
Arrived to find it still raining just as hard and what appeared to be more marshal’s than drivers. Had the weather put everyone off? I guess as gradually more and more people arrived they had maybe just had a sleep in, we even had a short guest appearance from the Teletubby Laa Laa!!
All the rain made for lots of mud glorious mud making the eight sections a lot more challenging for the competitors and their vehicles than the dry weather events. For many people it was the first time they had driven in such wet, slippery conditions.
There were some tricky sections with tight turns from one gate to the next and cross canes that caught a lot of people out. As the constant rain made things more and more muddy a lot of people got suck trying to go up the humps and bumps. If they did make it to the top some of them got beached needing a push or two in order to get them on their way again.
Mel’s Pajaro started dancing while trying to conquer one of the mounds, attempting a pirouette not that the dogs seemed to mind. Rumour has it that Strictly star John Sergeant has been in touch to get some tips to improve his own dancing skills but this is yet to be confirmed!
The last section of the day was a mud run. Great fun was had by all with pretty much everyone getting stuck at one point or another and needing a tow to get them out. The result, some very dirty vehicles and competitors too if you didn’t get your window shut in time or were in spraying distance of the mud coming off the tyres.
On behalf of all the competitors I want to say a MASSIVE thanks to all those who stood in the pouring rain and marshalled so that the rest of us could take part and have great fun. I didn’t see one person who was not having a brilliant time, smiling and really enjoying themselves so I hope you know it was worth it.
